Host tree traits in pasture areas affect forest and pasture specialist epiphyte species differently

چکیده

Premise Epiphytes have commensal relationships with their host trees. Besides the influence of tree traits, little has been discussed concerning ecology epiphytes in disturbed habitats (e.g., pasture). We herein tested whether occurrences pasture and forest specialist pastures are affected differently by traits. hypothesized that (H1) richness abundance generalist would be positively associated area availability; (H2) epiphyte species both (H2.a) availability (H2.b) traits related to higher seed adherence, and/or (H2.c) less severe habitat high humidity more shade). Methods sampled 9567 individuals from 16 on 759 scattered remnant The were divided into two ecological groups: specialists specialists. evaluated four traits: size (crown trunk diameter) type leaf density bark rugosity). Results size. However, was negatively crown density, whereas rugosity. Conclusions Large trees tend present compared smaller limits epiphytes, rugose increases epiphytes.

Interaction between Some Pasture Species and Two Hieracium Species

Possible control options are investigated for the introduced Hieracium weeds, particular problems in South Island high country, New Zealand. In a pot experiment regression of input to output ratios of above ground biomass over successive harvests, from binary mixtures was used to determine the competitive interaction between 13 pasture species and two Hieracium species, H. pilosella and H. prae...
